1. Lust for finding bugs : Having lust for anything is not good but in terms of software testing lust for bugs is very good to have. Having a strong desire to find defects in the software can only lead a tester to find huge bugs in the software.
2. Greed for knowledge : Like lust , greed is also very important factor that a good tester need to have. Greed for knowledge will make tester to have knowledge of each and every update of technology. A tester should have latest knowledge about programming languages, operating systems, web services, technology updates, gadgets, search engines, scripting skills, devices, browsers . If a tester will have all these latest information then he will be able to find out more ways in which software can be broken.
3. Forbearing : As testing is something to prove someone’s work wrong, so its very normal to have such situations in tester’s life where he wil find himself against the programmers/developer. But to have anger in such situation is not good. A software tester must be forbearing and he should know the fact that “Criticize the software bugs but the developer who developed it”
4. Gulosity : Greed is good for tester but not in excess. By “excess” i mean with over testing or excess testing. Learning to know where to stop testing is a lesser known art. If you didn’t find any new defects in the past hour of testing, then perhaps you wouldn’t find any, even if you extend the testing session for another couple of hours! In such cases taking a much needed break is a wiser decision than to extend the testing session.
Furthermore, every test projects are associated with budget constraints and you wouldn’t probably want to make your testing efforts become a liability to the whole project , would you?
